Ever wondered why some spiritual teachings feel heavy instead of freeing? Here’s why….

Nowadays, everybody seems to be either for or against spirituality. I remember 15–20 years ago, it didn’t seem to be a problem for most people. Whether you were an atheist, proud of being Cartesian and calling bullshit on all religions and the naive, stupid thought of: “There might be something out there.” Or a firm believer: “It is like it is.” Or an agnostic: “I don’t know, man, but I am open to everything.”

Since the pandemic hit, it seems like lots of people have jumped on the spiritual train. Some because they finally feel safe being on it. Others because they have big dollar signs in their eyes when they think about how they could monetize something that could bring in a lot of cash, without them having to earn a PhD for it (sorry, bad example—if PhDs made people rich, we would know). But long story short, my point is: before this “massive awakening,” there were people out there who never “woke up from the Matrix” and realized that they were infinite beings, because they never “were asleep.” They were born in the 70s/80s thinking: “What the actual fuck?! And what the fuck am I doing here?!”

Of course, a psychiatrist, psychologist, or trained therapist would automatically switch to:

“Don’t you feel out of place because something happened in your childhood that made you feel inadequate?”

Absolutely legitimate and logical step.

The problem is when you know, deep down, that it’s not that—or at least not only that.

And this feeling existed way before The Matrix was a thing. Only, there was no “mainstream” explanation for it.

We didn’t know the word “manifestation.”

We didn’t know the word “alignment.” “Flow” (Mihály Csíkszentmihályi) wasn’t a thing yet. “The Body Keeps the Score” (Bessel van der Kolk) didn’t exist yet, etc.

And we couldn’t articulate a lot of things.

But we knew. WE KNEW. In our bones.

And then something else came along (which already existed before, but didn’t have so much focus at that time):

Restrictive beliefs. Fear. Religious trauma rebranded as awakening.

To take power.

To make money.

To escape oneself and “the Matrix.”

To reassure oneself: “Oh God/Universe, if I make a shitload of money right now and hold my Chanel bag up to the camera, that’s proof that I’ve made it.”

Jesus/Allah/Buddha/etc. loves me because it rewards me…

BIG AUTSCH.

The typical hidden trauma of some New Agers is:

The Universe is a representative of one or both of my parents (unconsciously, of course).

I need to purify myself and earn my happiness (religious trauma).

I need to make others wrong and/or the whole path difficult and exclusive so that my suffering was not in vain. In other words: I need compensation.

And I get it.

And I think if you’re smart—which I assume you are—you see that’s a big logical slippery slope.

To sum it up:

YOU’RE INHERENTLY DESERVING.

YOU DESERVE IT.

YOU DESERVE IT ALL.

No matter your beliefs, judgments, childhood trauma, and thinking loops (spoiler: we all have some—some less, some more).

And don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

You don’t have to take endless lessons to verify “if you’re a good human being.”

You are, act, and get what you send “out there.”

For that very moment.

And when you’re done, you marry your human part and your higher part and think:

“Fuck yes! Now I know what I’ve decided to be here for.”

Until next time,

M

PS: If you want to

• name what you feel but can’t quite articulate
• reconnect to intuitive intelligence without bypassing the mind
• shift out of subtle freeze into aliveness
• think clearly without collapsing into overthinking
• access desire without pressure
• Create (manifest) from a grounded and sovereign identity, rather than from fear.
